A former commissioned officer in the US Naval Reserve, Anne Marie Elder knows how to navigate through the depths of ocean marine insurance. She has more than 30 years of property, inland and ocean marine underwriting experience and currently serves as AXA XL’s Global Chief Underwriting Officer of Marine insurance. The overriding goal is the execution of our target operating model in collaboration with each region. In this role, she oversees AXA XL’s global marine strategy focused on how the marine industry’s top risks and trends may impact AXA XL and its brokers and clients.
Previously, Anne Marie served as head of AXA XL’s North America Marine business, where she expanded the company’s footprint in key markets, diversified its portfolio, advocated for greater utilization of AI and data analytics, and improved efficiency across the board.
In addition to her underwriting management duties at AXA XL, Anne Marie also serves on the Boards of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters and the Water Quality Insurance Syndicate. Dr. Leroy (Lee) David Nunery II is an accomplished executive and multigenerational entrepreneur with a unique breadth of experiences in corporate banking, capital markets, education, professional sports, and a family-owned electrical contracting firm, Leroy Nunery & Sons, Inc. In 2007, Dr. Nunery founded PlūsUltré LLC, a strategic advisory firm that focuses on turnarounds, transformations, growth and innovation planning, resource development, talent development, governance training, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategies. Since its founding, PlūsUltré has successfully served educational, commercial, governmental, entrepreneurial, and nonprofit associations around the country.
In 2017, Dr. Nunery was commissioned by Marsh Companies to author a groundbreaking demographic and psychographic study called “The Journey of African American Insurance Professionals: Past and Present”, which analyzed the industry’s DEI dynamics and the historic accomplishments of African American practitioners, professionals, and insurance companies. Since publication, Dr. Nunery’s research has been presented in multiple forums and platforms, receiving national acclaim from audiences at all levels across the industry. He has previously served on the boards of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Inc., Pitney Bowes, Inc., Savoy Bank (New York), and Lafayette College. He is a Lifetime Member of the National Black MBA Association, Inc., and served as National President (1983 - 1987). Among other recognitions, Dr. Nunery has been awarded the Wallace L. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award by the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, and the Alumni Achievement and Community Engagement Award from Washington University’s Gephardt Institute. Since 2002, Lafayette College has awarded the Leroy D. Nunery Award for Intellectual Citizenship to a senior student of color for leadership and academic excellence.
Dr. Nunery is a graduate of Lafayette College (B.A., Honors in History, 1977), Washington University (M.B.A., 1979), and the University of Pennsylvania (Ed.D., 2003). Stefanie Ott is Head Group Qualitative Risk Management at Swiss Re and member of Swiss Re’s Risk Management Executive Team, reporting to the Group CRO. She has the group-wide responsibility for the identification and oversight of emerging, cyber, operational, political, regulatory and sustainability risks. She also drives the implementation of the sustainability strategy for the company.

Scott M. Purviance is the chief executive officer of Amwins, the largest independent wholesale distributor of specialty insurance products in the United States. Based in Charlotte, N.C., the company operates through more than 118 offices globally and handles premium placements in excess of $20 billion dollars annually.
One of the company’s first employees, Scott joined Amwins in July 2001 as chief financial officer and took on the additional role of chief operating officer in April 2012. He became chief executive officer on May 1, 2018. Scott has served on Amwins’ Board of Directors since April 2015.
Prior to joining Amwins in 2001, Purviance served as Vice President of Finance for the Business Insurance Division of Royal & SunAlliance USA, Inc. (1999-2001) and was in the insurance services assurance practice with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (1992-1999).
He holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Wake Forest University and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association for six years.
Neal Rideout is the SVP, GM of P&C Distribution & Service at USAA. In this role, Neal leads the teams responsible for all sales and service (non-Claims) member interactions across all channels (phone, digital, chat and paper).
Neal's team spans five key areas: The P&C Digital team is focused on creating a holistic digital experience that embodies great USAA service across mobile and dotcom. The Insurance Sales and Service team including internal and 3P Insurance Professionals provide member care to new and existing members in the phone channel. The team of Experience Owners and Business Process Consultants are accountable for experience design and optimization across all channels. Neal's Sales and Service Performance team is accountable for key performance metrics versus plan. The final area is the Operations and Planning team that manages the agile and non-IT portfolio of work to run and change the business.
Prior to this role, Neal led the Auto Insurance Experience function. In previous roles, he led Enterprise Client Management, Bank Client Management, and the Enterprise Client Management function.
Before joining USAA in 2012, Neal was Vice President for Red Ventures and was responsible for direct marketing and sales driving online demand generation and offline call center sales. Prior to Red Ventures, Neal served as Senior Vice President of Digital Marketing for Bank of America. There he was responsible for digital marketing of all card, deposits, home loans, integrated, and enterprise programs. Isabelle Santenac is the Global Insurance Leader at EY. She has over 30 years of experience working with large financial services organizations globally. Dana Sumpter is an associate professor of Organization Theory and Management at Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business. Her research focuses on the intersection of relational behavior at work and managerial systems, with a particular focus on cross-cultural management. Secondarily, she studies gender and work/family issues in organizations. Formerly a Vice President of Human Resources at Citigroup, she draws from her travels, her work as an expatriate in Asia, and her research on international management in teaching graduate-level cross-cultural management and diversity.
Alvin B. Tillery, Jr. is Director of the Center for the Study of Diversity and Democracy and Associate Professor of political science at Northwestern University. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University in 2001. In 1993, he graduated summa cum laude from Morehouse College with a degree in political science. Tillery’s research focuses on the relationship between politics and racial and ethnic inequalities in the United States, presidential leadership, and social movements. His book Between Homeland and Motherland: Africa, US Foreign Policy and Black Leadership in America (Cornell University Press, 2011) won the W.E.B. Du Bois Distinguished Book Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists in 2012. In 2015-2016, Tillery served as co-chair of the American Political Science Association’s Presidential Task Force on Racialand Class Inequalities in the Americas. He currently serves as implementation czar for the American Political Science Association’s Presidential Task Force on Gender Equity in the Profession. Tillery is a frequent commentator in the national media on diversity issues and presidential leadership. Tillery is also the principal of Analytic Insights Leadership and Diversity Consulting, LLC.
